Kidlington Neighbourhood Update – September 2009
Crime
September has seen further reductions in the overall crime for all the neighbourhoods. That does not mean we are being complacent and we still need to work together to prevent any one of us becoming a victim.
Cycle theft is still above last years figures, running at 15 for the year to date. Now some will rightly say 15 for all the neighbourhoods is negligible, but that is still 15 people having to buy another bike to get around and the expense that incurs.
Patrolling around the villages, we are still seeing bikes left insecure at the side of roads and we would urge you to think about the security of them.
Anti-Social behaviour
The number of incidents of anti-social behaviour reported to police is still falling. That could be because of high profile patrolling and multi-agency working. However, one concern is that people are worried about reporting low level anti-social behaviour, because they are concerned about the possible repercussions.
Do not let these people rule your life, tell us and we will do something about it.
You can contact the neighbourhood team through the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505, or alternatively speak with the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. All information is treated in the strictest confidence — we just want to help you.
Offender updates
Several villagers have been brought to account in court this month, the following is a list of the most notable of these:
One man given a five year custodial sentence for supplying class A drugs at Oxford Crown Court.
A woman was given an 18 month custodial sentence and deportation order for cultivating cannabis in Beagle Close.
Another woman was given a 12 month custodial sentence for supplying cannabis.
Two men from outside the village were remanded in custody for a burglary at Hampton Poyle.
Neighbourhood Priorities
Kidlington North
Speed enforcement and prevention continues, now supported by Vehicle Activated Speed indicators, which some villages have purchased and are now up and running.
With the exception of the Hampton Poyle burglary, where two men were arrested and most of the property recovered, we have not been targeted by this month.
Kidlington Village
Speed enforcement continues in Langford Lane and other roads in the village. The most recent operation by Roads Policing resulted in 50 drivers being dealt with for various offences. The highest speed recorded in the 30mph limit being 57mph.
The Neighbourhood Action Group have requested a site review to see if there is anything that can be done to curb the speed in Langford Lane and will be working in partnership with the Parish Council, Highways and other agencies.
Kidlington South
There has been nothing of note on any of the priorities this month, a speed operation is planned for next week and will be results will be made available in the next update.
Partnerships
The team continues to work hard with all our partners and are currently busy with several projects involving schools, the NAG, registered social landlords, Cherwell District Council and Cherwell District Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team.
Future meetings
The next police surgery will be taking place on the following date:
4 November, 2009 — between 7pm and 8pm — Yarnton Village Hall
It has been a good month with some great results. The team would like to thank Det Sgt Howard Berry of Witney CID, who quickly identified our Hampton Poyle burglars by the MO and arranged their arrests — a quality piece of detective work.
We will shortly be conducting the next neighbourhood survey to see what you, the community, want us to concentrate on next year. We are hoping to enlist the help of Neighbourhood Watch members to ensure a better coverage and return.
