Chiltern Railways have published their outline proposals for an extension to the Chiltern line which includes a new Parkway station at the Water Eaton Park and Ride. Obviously there are many implications for Kidlington.
They say:
"If ever there was a good example of joined up
transport, it’s the proposed new Evergreen 3 station
at Water Eaton Parkway. A brand new station to serve north Oxford, Water Eaton Parkway will be the pivotal link in a chain of bus, cycle, taxi and car links to the new Chiltern service.
The new station, which will be located next to the
existing bus, park and ride terminus at Water Eaton,
will have all the facilities expected at a mainline station.
These include a staffed ticket counter, coffee shop
and news-stand, plus passenger information systems.
There will be level access all the way to platforms,
making the station easy to use for passengers with
wheelchairs, buggies or heavy luggage.
As befits Oxford, the station will provide plenty of cycle parking, easy interchange with buses and taxis and over 700 additional car parking spaces for rail passengers. There will be direct, landscaped links to the park & ride terminus for express buses to the City Centre and the John Radcliffe Hospital, and bus stops on the main road next to the station for local buses to Kidlington, Oxford Airport, surrounding villages and intermediate stops in north and central Oxford."
